What Is It That Women Are Doing Differently When They Are Leading?

About this event:

Linqto Learn is back with its Women Investor Series on October 20th 2022 to talk about what women are doing differently when they lead with Jennifer Kenny. According to research done by the Frank Recruitment Group, the majority of the Fortune 500 companies with female CEOs tend to be more profitable than those with men CEOs.

But even though we have the statistics most women still lack investment and leadership confidence. At Linqto, we believe in empowering women in the financial sector. We do this by inviting influential women in the space who have been through it all and are sensitive to the challenges women face. Nevertheless, financial literacy is for ALL, so we do encourage everyone to participate as you will come out of the session with a better understanding of today’s investment landscape.

If statistically, women have outperformed men, what are some strengths women show in their investments and leadership skills? For starters, women tend to be more patient than men; this means using a strategy where you buy and hold for the long term. Women also tend to hold a more diversified asset allocation, looking usually for balance. And, most importantly, women are not afraid to ask questions. This last one, as small as it may seem, can mean a great difference, especially when investing in private markets.

But even if the odds are in our favor, where do we start? How can being the only women in the room become an advantage? And, if we look at the other side of the market into women founders and women CEOs, how are they performing when compared to their male counterparts? As Jennifer very wisely stated, gender balance is where your optimal value generation is. Building sustainable companies and identifying value for potential investments goes beyond gender. However, women are still facing industry-specific inequalities. According to Pitchbook, in 2021 companies founded solely by women garnered 2.4% of the total capital invested in venture-backed startups in the US. As investors, how can we change this? How can we support women, without diminishing men's work? How do we find this balance?
